Advanced Water Treatment Facility

WRD

Customer Background

The Water Replenishment District (WRD) of Southern California is the largest groundwater agency in California, managing and protecting groundwater resources for 4 million residents in the US’s most populated county.

WRD owns and operates several assets including a 5 MGD capacity desalter, an 8 MGD advanced water treatment facility, and has recently finished constructing a second AWTF with expansion capacity up to 29.6 MGD.

Project Background

Part of WRD’s sustainability plan is to source groundwater replenishment from non-imported sources. The ARC (formerly GRIP) site purifies tertiary treated (recycled) water and distributes it across the San Gabriel Coastal Spreading Grounds for percolation into the groundwater table. The ARC facility processes about 14 MGD and uses UF, three-stage RO, and UV technology for treatment.

EA Solutions

EA is acting as the owner’s agent with regard to reviewing and overseeing work done by the contractor’s integrator. EA provided WRD’s SCADA standards and associated training and has provided reviews and quality control throughout the project to ensure the final project meets WRDs needs and is consistent with all other WRD sites.
