Wastewater Agency Standards Conversion

Orange County Sanitation District

Customer Background

OCSD is a public agency that provides wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal services for approximately 2.6 million people living in a 479‐square‐mile area of central and northwest Orange County, CA. They operate two adjacent wastewater facilities and fifteen lift stations to treat an estimated 185 million gallons of residential, commercial, and industrial wastewater daily.

Each plant provides processes for solids handling, primary treatment, sludge treatment, secondary treatment, odor control, and resource recovery via cogeneration.

Project Background

The Plant 1 and 2 processes, collections systems, and the Plant 1 electrical control systems use the CRISP SCADA platform with end-of-life Modicon Quantum PLCs running obsolete ProWorx NxT software.

EA Solutions

The District engaged Enterprise Automation on a four-year contract to leverage our expertise in creating SCADA and PLC standards and our experience with Schneider Electric systems to help them migrate to a modern controls platform. Our current assignment is to convert the District’s existing PLC standards from Concept to Unity Pro, whilst ensuring continued compatibility with the central tag database, SCADA system, and engineering standards.
