The aroma of new carpet and paint

On June 6th, the team at Enterprise Automation packed up and headed 10 miles south to a spacious new facility in Irvine, California. The old office had served us well, but was eventually overrun by 5 years of steady growth.

Built in 2003, our new 10,000 square foot two story building was purchased by Enterprise Automation in March, 2011. Interior renovations have created a fantastic working environment for our team, with plenty of work space, meeting rooms, collaboration areas, and testing laboratory. And of course, there’s nothing quite like the aroma of new! The office is located at 210 Goddard, Irvine, CA 92618. Ph. (949) 769-6000.

Gas Processing at McCommas Bluff

Situated beside the 3rd largest solid waste landfill in the U.S., the McCommas Bluff Gas Processing Facility is the largest high BTU landfill gas facility in the United States. The facility draws methane from the landfill, and through a variety of processes readies the gas for injection into the interstate pipe line. Methane that would otherwise have escaped into the atmosphere is recovered for reuse, resulting in a negative carbon footprint for the environment.

Enterprise Automation has the privilege of providing the automation and controls for the replacement of the existing legacy DCS and for an expansion doubling the capacity of the facility. Project work will be completed by July 2012, with three staged cutovers and startups. The new controls will utilize Allen-Bradley ControlLogix PLCs, with Flex I/O interfacing to a redundant Wonderware InTouch system. Scope for the project includes panel design and supply, server design and supply, control description development, PLC programming, SCADA configuration, acceptance testing, and commissioning.

Enterprise Automation/Malcolm-Racing at 2010 NASA National Championships

Team Enterprise Automation/Malcolm-Racing roller coaster ride continued on Sunday, September 19th at the 2010 NASA National Championships at Miller Motorsports Park, in Tooele, UT. Based on the two qualifying races, the team qualified 8th in class, Performance Touring (PTD). As the green flag flew to kick off the start of the race, driver Derrick Malcolm moved into sixth place as the field entered turn 1. Four turns later the team moved into fifth place while making a pass going into 'black rock hairpin' (turn 5). Malcolm moved into fourth place later in the opening lap with a pass going through 'club house corner' (turn 21). After a smooth 'wind up' (turn 22) and 'release' (turn 23), Malcolm moved into third place just before crossing the start/ finish line to complete lap #1. So in one lap, Malcolm piloted the Team Enterprise Automation/Malcolm-Racing Nissan Sentra SE-R from eighth to third place. After a few more laps, the team was within reach of second place. Malcolm got a few looks at trying to make a pass on second but couldn't make anything stick. Lapped traffic soon became another factor in the battle for second. On the second to last lap, coming out of the 'attitudes' (turns 16-18) Malcolm noticed a slight drop off in power. There didn't appear to be any overheating and oil pressure drop off. But after going through 'Tooele turn' (turn 19), the engine let go. As the car coasted to stop well off outside of 'wind up' the white flag was flying on the front straight. The team was less than two and a half minutes away from a podium finish.

Further details can be found at Malcolm-Racing.

Successful Ampla pilot leads to next generation reporting project

Following a successful pilot project which has established performance and applicability of Schneider Electric's Ampla software platform, Enterprise Automation is proceeding with the development of Sweetwater Authority’s next generation reporting system. Ampla is a powerful and dynamic suite of software that empowers businesses to reduce costs and improve production efficiency, performance and profitability. It does this by connecting multiple plant and business systems, collecting the relevant data, and presenting the data in a real-time intelligent format for productivity analysis, data mining, querying and reporting. Sweetwater Authority provides safe, reliable water service to approximately 187,000 people in National City, Bonita and the Western and central portions of Chula Vista, California.
